Tea tree is one of those essential oils everyone knows about, it constantly has good publicity, yet a lot of us don’t actually know what it’s REALLY good for.
Tea Tree oil is taken from the leaves of the Melaleuca Alternifolia tree, native to Australia and has been used for hundreds of years as a natural anti-septic. The colourless oil has a potent, fresh odour, and is extremely effective at treating a variety of medical conditions.
In fact, tea tree as medicinal oil dates back centuries, with evidence showing Aboriginal communities were using tea tree as an antiseptic for skin conditions. Tea tree oil is still considered one of the best home remedies for acne, even after all this time.
While adding tea tree to food is a no-no (it’s extremely toxic when ingested), there are other uses to tea tree than using it for blemishes. If you’re someone who likes to wash your hair on the daily, then you’re probably used to a bit of build-up on the scalp. Adding a couple of drops of tea-tree to your regular shampoo can break down the product left on your scalp. The healthier your hair follicles, the healthier your hair.
It’s also a great re-freshener for your not-so-fresh clothes, by adding as little as a couple of teaspoons of tea tree to your wash, it can have a really long-lasting effect on the way your clothes smell!
Tea tree oil is definitely #FreeMySkin approved and we’d like to know how you use it or if you have any tips you’d like to share?!
